Who knew?  This sweet treat happened at our home by accident with me thinking, “Wouldn’t it be sweet to surprise my hubby with a blackberry bush?  Little did I know how much fun it would be to grow berries. While looking at them at the garden center, they seemed to look innocent with 1 or 2 scrawny branches in the early spring.  It was easy to mistake them for what would become their full growth size!

Just “plant them in a sunny spot,” the directions read.  Give them a supporting fence or trellis to grow against.  Water them and apply a little food then get ready to see them grow!!  My thornless blackberries tend to spread out with runners, but they do enjoy coming back fuller each year.  So be sure to pick a spot with some space.

Watch them bloom.  They start out as small red berries, then double in size, seemingly overnight, to a big, plump blackberry. Our harvest has increased to a point now where we are freezing the berries, and then find a lazy day in the fall to make jams and jellies. Enjoy...

But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” Mathew 13:23 NIV Holy Bible
