There’s something magical about planting a seed or a small starter plant and watching it grow.  You find yourself picking out the perfect spot to plant, tending to it for a short while with water and food, and then protecting it from invading insects and predators (i.e. birds, rabbits, and weeds).  You look forward to its growth.  You hope it produces.

For a time, it seems that nothing happens.  Then you see it!  The growth shows up in small shoots, popping up out of the ground.  Before you know it, there are small buds growing everywhere.  And then it happens ... your first fruits or vegetables of the season.

Gardening has become a lost art in some of our families’ lives.  It used to be something that our parents or grandparents did.  I find myself remembering my grandparents bringing in food from their gardens and spending the day canning their fresh vegetables and fruit.  I never thought about how relaxing or peaceful it is to spend time gardening.

It’s so nice to simply walk out and just pick your own vegetables for tonight’s dinner or fruit to mix with breakfast.  I hope you get a chance to set aside an area to create your garden magic and experience this sweet blessing too.

“When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.”Deuteronomy 8:10, NIV Holy Bible
